Earlier this week, some of our South Island team attended the grand opening of the new Banks Avenue School in Christchurch. The opening, which was held in the brand-new hall (something the old school never had) had a great turnout with 200 people including students, teachers, government officials and project contractors all in attendance.
The school has been a long time coming for the community and it was over to local Iwi to open the proceedings, with the mayor and Minister Hipkins speaking about the journey it has taken to get to where we are today, the limitless future for the students and thanked everyone involved.
The school itself now comprises six separate buildings, including four teaching pods, a hall and the main admin and library block, all surrounding by some amazing landscaping and yard areas, with our team also donating free gardening supplies to help with the veggie planting areas.
Our team began work onsite in April 2021 and were able to hand over one month early, with the school moving in during the holidays – just in time for the new term to start. Check out some of the recent pictures of the school, with Cadet Yohan D’cunha posing up a storm alongside Principal, Toni Burnside.
Well done team – great effort from everyone!
