Since 2021, Hawkins has been delivering the east terminal expansion project at Auckland Airport – an integral part of AKL’s terminal integration programme designed to connect the international terminal to the under construction Domestic Jet Terminal, linking domestic and international travel.

The project includes:

  • Demolition of existing terminal areas
  • Construction of a new eastern baggage hall
  • Expansion of terminal floors
  • Installation of new power centres
  • Relocation of critical infrastructure

All work is being carried out in a live operational environment, above an active truck dock, and alongside live airfield and baggage handling systems – requiring meticulous planning to minimise disruption.

With over 40 years of partnership with AKL Airport, Hawkins brings proven experience delivering complex projects in a 24/7 environment.

We’ve developed tailored construction methodologies that focus on buildability, safety, and minimising impact on airport operations.  Strong collaboration with AKL Airport and Beca (Project Management) has been essential, supported by regular feedback loops and proactive risk assessments.

Our commitment to innovation, safety, and collaboration continues to drive successful delivery.

In September 2024, Hawkins was awarded the contract for the Domestic Jet Terminal project for AKL Airport, another critical piece in AKL’s terminal integration programme.
