Construction of The Pā at The University of Waikato Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato has reached a major milestone with the completion of the roof. With the roof complete, the final shape of The Pā is revealed, and over the next few months focus turns to the internal fit out of the building, ahead of its completion in early 2023.
The design recognises the importance of enabling cultural expression within the wider educational experience, sheltering the various facilities beneath a majestic whakaruruhau (roof structure). The progress on the inspiring building includes the huge, engineered glulam timber beams which provide the structural form for The Pā. It’s one of the biggest examples of using structural glulam beams in Aotearoa.
The Pā is the largest capital project in the university’s 58-year history and aims to bring a new vibrancy. It will house a new campus wharenui, performance stage, offices and teaching areas as well as a student hub area with a food court and event space.
What an awesome achievement for our team onsite and a reflection of the hard mahi!
