Ian gained much of his construction industry experience in the UK, before moving to New Zealand and joining Hawkins in 2015.
Ian spent 16 years with Bam Construction, one of the UK’s largest contractors, and worked his way up through the ranks from Engineer to Construction Manager.
“I’ve always enjoyed the interesting challenges you’re faced with in the construction industry and the variety of projects you get to work on.
Ian joined Hawkins as a Project Manager and was then promoted to Project Director. He was responsible for delivering two PPP schools in Christchurch and Queenstown.
In 2018 Ian was promoted to Operations Manager and became GM South Island in 2019. He oversees all of Hawkins’ operations in the South Island.
“Hawkins attracts great people, and that’s what makes it a great company to work for. Some of our people have been here for 20 or 30 years and still love what they do.
“Since the Christchurch earthquakes, Hawkins has been part of the redevelopment of Christchurch. We’ve worked on key projects including the Pita te Hori Centre on the site of the former King Edward Barracks, The Terrace and the refurbishment of the Christchurch Town Hall.
Ian’s key strength is in bringing a team together and ensuring operations are run efficiently. He actively promotes open and honest communication, ensuring the team know their role, manage their risks and go home safely each day.
