Pale Ngapera, Sam Fatongiatau (Year 13) and Spencer Isaia (Year 12) from Tamaki College with support from nationally and internationally renowned street artist Gary Silipa, are the creators of the mural that has gone up around the GIMAC construction site.

The mural is a view from space to a barren earth with the only rays of light shining on icons of the Glen Innes neighbourhood.

The images represent the history and heart of Glen Innes like the spacie machines from the old spacie parlour, kids on bikes at the track, the flats, state houses and trains, Mt Wellington Mountain, and shops that have been in GI for decades.

The mural will be in place for the duration of the construction project. It was primarily funded by the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board, with Hawkins Construction making a contribution towards the materials.
