Hawkins Infrastructure has been awarded the design and construct contract for the Kookaburra Flyover and Roading project in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The project comprises a 600m long four- lane concrete flyover, just under 2.5km four lane road, a roundabout, drainage, and associated streetscape.
The scale of this flyover is a first for Papua New Guinea and a first for any Pacific Island Country. The flyover and carriageway is a vital conduit from the Jacksons Airport to Waigani which supports many businesses, PNG Government departments and international Embassies. The project value is just under NZ$100 million, and contract completion will be circa 109 weeks.
Brian FitzGerald, Hawkins Infrastructure Executive General Manager, says that it puts the company in great stead for other large roading and civil structured projects in New Zealand and overseas.
“While this is our first project in Papua New Guinea we are well positioned with both New Zealand and local resources at hand,” says FitzGerald.
“We are already pursuing other opportunities in the Pacific both on our own and in joint venture with some of the top 20 construction companies in the world.”
