CRFU Offices and High Performance Facility Hero

Canterbury Rugby Football Union

Hawkins were engaged to construct a new high-performance facility and office block for the Canterbury Rugby Football Union in two stages.

The Canterbury Rugby Football Union (CRFU) is an expanding franchise with local and national rugby. Their existing facilities dated back to the 1960’s and CRFU required a more modern facility to suit their requirements. Hawkins was engaged to construct a new high-performance facility and office block in two stages.

The first stage was a 1,000m2 high-performance facility. This involved removing an existing temporary facility (area of 300m2) and relocating it onto new foundations with a new building then being built around this. The new structure involved a raft foundation, structural steel, Modulit/ Conquer panel/ Tarctray Cladding, and Diamond Deck roof cladding.

The second stage was a new 2 level office block joining onto Stage 1. The structure involved Foundation Beams, Precast/ Structural Steel Structure, Diamond Deck roof cladding.

This building plays a key role in the Canterbury Rugby community. It is used by the Crusaders and Canterbury rugby teams for high-performance training all year round. This facility is also used to host a mix of sporting events and international training camps.

A great Client/Consultant relationship was maintained throughout the project, with weekly meetings with the Architect benefiting the project with buildability.

Practical Completion and Code of Compliance were achieved on the same day in unison with close consultation with Christchurch City Council.

The project was completed to a very high quality and 98% defect free at handover. It maintained exemplary health, safety, and environmental standards at all times, with no accidents resulting in medical treatment.
