Steve has over 30 years' experience in the construction industry and has been part of the Hawkins team for 20 years. 

He oversees all construction activities in the South Island and is responsible for a team of around 100 people.

Steve has strong management skills and an acute understanding of best practice approaches to project programming, systems and IT. His clients value his excellent organisational and planning expertise, as well as his ability to drive and coordinate multiple project stakeholders to successful project outcomes. 


  • Completing a five star hotel in Queenstown through a global financial crisis. Steve was able to successfully manage the project through a receivership and complete it for the new operator, Hilton Hotels & Resorts.
  • Completing Victoria Square Apartments in Christchurch, which was the first significant project for Hawkins in the South Island.
  • Effecting positive change by developing a culture of trust and openness. There is a strong focus on project delivery from inception to completion, operational excellence and “walking the walk.”
  • A Canterbury Safety Charter Board Member. The Charter was developed as a way of making sure everyone who works in construction in Canterbury goes home safely and healthily every night. It sets the standards for a consistent & collective approach to H & S.
