Hawkins to build University of Auckland new School of Medicine

Hawkins has signed the contract to deliver the $116 million Park West Building 507 for the University of Auckland. The new building will house the School of Medicine and the School of Population Health, which will be transferring from the ADHB Support Building and the Tamaki Campus.

Located on the corner of Park Road and Park Avenue, the new building will have a gross floor area of 19,500m2 and will comprise 6 levels in total, rising four levels above ground with an underground lower floor and basement carpark. The upper three levels will accommodate office and open plan activities; the middle levels will be dedicated to student-focused activities - including flat-floor teaching spaces – and the lower ground floor will be dedicated to clinic space.

Hawkins is well acquainted with the University of Auckland. This appointment follows the award of the new $170 million Engineering Building B405. The 11-storey building is currently being constructed on the site of the previous 403/404 building with the aim of opening for occupation for Semester One 2020.

Hawkins also recently completed the Unilodge student accommodation apartment block at 53-55 Symonds Street and have a close understanding of the meticulous traffic, noise management, and advanced Building Information Modelling that is required to pull off a live project of this scale.

The University of Auckland is committed to providing students with a first-rate, international-standard teaching, learning and research to improve the University's infrastructure, systems, and buildings.

Construction on Park West Building 507 is due to commence on 27 November 2017 with completion scheduled for 31 January 2020.
