Future Auckland Leaders’ Programme

“The real journey of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

– Marcel Proust

The Future Auckland Leaders' programme, led by the Committee for Auckland, focuses on developing individual's connectedness and their understanding of city and civic leadership.

Hawkins participates in this biennial programme considering it a natural addition to its own leadership programme run in conjunction with the Auckland University Business School.

The Future Auckland Leaders Programme taps into the energy and insight of the city's emerging leaders, cultivating their passion for Auckland and helping channel it into city-enhancing projects.

Nominated by Committee for Auckland members from within their respective organisations, participants are individuals who possess strong leadership, as well as succession potential. Most importantly, participants share a belief in, and commitment to, helping make Auckland one of the great places to live, work and play.

“To lead in Auckland, you first need to understand how it works, moves, operates and functions”

– Alumni 2011

Aims of the Programme

At the end of the two year programme participants are:

  • Better-informed about Auckland's key drivers and issues
  • Have met some of the leading individuals and organisations
  • Understand the interrelatedness of these areas & sectors
  • Understand the importance of Auckland's success
  • Understand Auckland's place internationally

They will also:

  • Understand what good leadership entails
  • Have developed their own leadership skills
  • Understand their own leadership capabilities and aptitudes (civic, corporate or community)
  • Have developed a drive and zeal for helping to make Auckland "one of the world's great places to live, work and play"
  • Have developed ‘legacy projects’ for the city

In the second year of each programme, participants deliver a legacy project that seeks to address a 'need' in the city. These legacy projects benefit Auckland beyond the completion of the leadership programme.
